Mmm… this was a 2 tiered topsy turvy cake I made for my sister’s birthday. It was chocolate mud (at her request) and my first attempt at making a topsy turvy.
I followed the steps of making the shape of the wonky cake from a book that I bought from Amazon:
Wedding Cakes You Can Make: Designing, Baking, and Decorating the Perfect Wedding Cake
This was a new challenge for me. It was kind of complicated but I got there! Previous to this, I had watched heaps of videos on YouTube and found there are a lot of other methods out there which may be more simple but I wanted to try this option based on the height of my cake (my cakes were not as tall as other ones I saw used with other methods). As you can see in the close up shot below, there are slight bulges on the side where the cake didn’t line up 100% when I stacked them (or they may have slid) which I would have trimmed in hindsight…
The decorations were quite simple. Nothing I hadn’t used before. I tried to keep a purple and black theme based on her favorite colors and the present I had got for her.
The bow was a last minute addition but gave the cake a more youthful look and covered the holes where the bouncing stars leapt from. I was overall happy with the final result!
